Specialized Professional Accrediting Agency The major responsibility of NASD is the accreditation of educational programs in dance.
Development of Standards and Guidelines NASD initiates and participates, on a continuing basis, in the discussion, development, and implementation of Standards and Guidelines. The Standards and Guidelines of the Association may be found in the NASD Handbook. These standards are continually examined and revised as necessary. Ratification of standards is accomplished by vote of the entire membership. Prior to vote, drafts are circulated for comment among member institutions and the national dance community. The Association encourages written comment on its established standards at any time.

Consultative Services
NASD maintains a list of consultants. Institutions may utilize NASD as a communication and financial vehicle to secure the services of a consultant. Consultants do not work for NASD, rather the institution that employs them. Consultative advice does not necessarily indicate the position of the Association nor does it guarantee any specific outcome particularly regarding accredited membership.
Institutions may wish to utilize the assistance of consultants when considering issues such as Accreditation (new applications, reaccreditation, initiation of new curricula, substantial changes to existing curricula), Institutional Development, Internal Reviews, Facility and Equipment Reviews, and State Reviews.
Meeting Information
Publications NASD maintains an inventory of published material containing information on the accreditation process, management and policy issues, accredited members, and statistics. These publications may be utilized to assist with issues from Plan Approval applications to meetings with State Boards, comparative studies to doctoral dissertations.
ArchivesNASD maintains archival records for each accredited member institution. These records include all correspondence since initial contact, the two most recent self-studies, and all annual reports (HEADS Data Surveys). For further information about archives or to request copies of archival material for a small fee (member institutions only), please contact the National Office.
Speakers NASD maintains an informal pool of individuals (dancers, executives, arts professionals, staff) capable of providing information and assistance on a number of topics. NASD is pleased to provide a list of names; however, logistics and details of speaking engagements should be arranged directly with the speaker.
Staff Assistance The NASD Staff is pleased to provide assistance and clarification. If, after reviewing the information contained in this Home Page, you are interested in obtaining additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the National Office.
