Stephanie Milling currently serves as Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance and Head of Dance Education at the University of South Carolina. Prior to her appointment at the University of South Carolina, she was the Assistant Dean for the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Winthrop University.
After an extensive performing career, she has taught in many artistic and educational environments, such as Dallas Black Dance Theatre I and II, New York City public schools, Texas Christian University, Texas Woman’s University, and the University of North Texas. Her choreography has appeared at the Joyce Soho, the D.U.M.B.O. Dance Festival, and Piccolo Spoleto.
Professor Milling is currently Advisory Director of Advocacy for the National Dance Education Organization, past President of the South Carolina Arts Alliance, past Arts Education Council member for Americans for the Arts, and an editorial board member for The Journal of Movement Arts Literacy, Dance Education in Practice, and Arts Education Policy Review. Her writing has appeared in the Journal of Dance Education, Dance Education in Practice, Arts Education Policy Review, and other national and international publications.
Professor Milling has previously served NASD as a member of the Committee on Nominations.
Professor Milling holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Dance and a Master of Arts degree in Women’s Studies from Texas Woman’s University, and a Master of Arts degree in Dance Education from New York University.
